EV Battery Manufacturing Gigafactory

A leading global high-performance battery manufacturer, operated as Europe’s and the UK’s first EV battery factory for over a decade. This gigafactory, with an annual capacity of 1.8 GWh, has since been in the process of being decommissioned and replaced with an upgraded gigafactory. The new facility will have a capacity of 15.8 GWh and employ more than 1,000 people, therefore becoming the UK’s largest gigafactory to date.

The Challenge

Whilst the existing plant was being decommissioned staff had to move between sites and become familiar with the new equipment, processes and layout of the new facility being commissioned at the same time. Delays on selecting a globaly agreed upon EAM solution resulted in a very short timeframe to be operational, and a need for a functioning asset management system, or else the plant couldn’t go live.

As the operation required decommissioning the original site and developing the new gigafactory simultaneously, not all equipment was available, and therefore a system and team were needed that could grow, adapt, and support their changing environment. MCGlobal delivered a CMMS solution alongside continuous data imports, ongoing implementation support, and structured staff training as each phase of the expansion came online, ensuring the system remained aligned with current operational needs.
